VET Student Loans:

This course is approved under the Commonwealth VET Student Loans program. If you are an eligible student you have the option to pay your tuition fees or apply for a VET Student Loan for all or part of your tuition fees. The Commonwealth sets a loan cap on the amount it will lend to a student for each course.  These are the covered fees. In some cases the course fees may exceed the covered fees, and you will have to pay the difference.

If you intend to apply for a VET Student Loan, we will first check that you meet the eligibility and academic suitability requirements for a loan (see below) then forward your details to the Commonwealth. You will be sent an email with a log on and passkey for the online loan application.

To complete the application, you will need:

  • your Tax File number (TFN). If you do not have a TFN,  you need to apply for one (through most Australia Post outlets). You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you don’t provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
  • your Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you have not yet registered for a USI, click here to create one. If you have a USI but don’t remember your USI details, click here to find your USI.

Academic suitability – To be eligible for a VET Student Loan, you will need to be assessed as academically suitable to undertake high level VET study. You can:

  • provide a copy of your senior secondary certificate of education (that has been awarded by an Australian authority or agency); or
  • provide evidence of attainment of an Australian Qualification Framework qualification at Certificate 4 level or above.  If it is a TAFE NSW qualification, just tell us when and where you studied; or
  • undertake a literacy and numeracy assessment and be competent at Exit Level 3 or above in reading and numeracy. Your college will assist you through the process to undertake this assessment if you need to. It’s free of charge.
